
Course Description:
An exploration of traditional and modern techniques of oil painting and their underlying theories of light, color, space, and expression.
This course is an introduction to the core elements of painting. Students will gain knowledge and confidence in using the fundamental tools, materials, and processes of oil painting. Grounded in observational activities, students will explore painting as a way of translating the physical world. Projects will explore how the artist and viewer make and see through color, pictorial space, mark, composition, and figure/ ground relationship. Students are encouraged to use painting as a process of personal experience and expression.
