Poetry workshop is a celebration and examination of possibilities on the page. It is a collaborative effort between professor and poets to answer the ancient questions of what is a poem and what is poetry for? This course introduces students to a plethora of ways to brainstorm, write and interpret poetry. Each week of this course will include workshopping of students’ writing and introduce a new craft element to help illuminate poetic instincts. By considering various points of view, logics, lengths, formal constraints and historic inspirations within poetry, students will approach the page adventurously and produce a robust body of work by the semester’s end.
