"Decolonial Ecofeminist Ethics" is an interdisciplinary course that explores the intersections of decolonial theory, ecofeminist ethics, and environmental justice. The course adopts a decological praxis approach, which encourages a dialogue with religious thought from the Global South, challenging Western-centric knowledge systems and promoting a more inclusive understanding of environmental and gender issues. The course critically examines the interconnectedness of various forms of oppression and the hierarchical systems that privilege certain groups over others. A key aim of the course is to cultivate a decolonial, ecofeminist ethic of care, equipping students with the necessary tools to challenge the logic of domination, thereby addressing social injustices and ecological destruction. The course also investigates the role of neoliberalism and consumerism in perpetuating environmental and gender oppression, and encourages students to develop strategies to resist these oppressive structures. Our topics will be explored through diverse texts, including news articles, opinions, YouTube videos, poetry, podcasts and documentaries, giving particular attention to knowledge voiced by black, brown and indigenous scholars in the Global North and South.
