Time, form and motion are investigated through the use of digital animation techniques. Students will explore the impact of the moving image on the history of art, with special emphasis on the inclusive nature of new media. The moving image will be introduced through animation and motion graphics within a fine art, historical, theoretical, social, and applied context. Assignments direct students in creating works that utilize attributes of time and movement, elements of the moving image, serial, sequential, and narrative ordering, still/moving image editing, sound and image relations, and object/event analysis. Through reading, discussion, projects, and critiques, we will explore the framework of time-based digital media in theory and practice, and will utilize computer graphics and animation skills to create artworks which critically engage with these issues.
