This course explores the letters of the New Testament—the thirteen letters attributed to Paul, the first and second letters of Peter, the three letters of John, the letters of James and Jude, and the letter to the Hebrews. This introductory course for masters’ students is designed to both provide familiarity with and lay a foundation for lifelong critical and constructive interpretation of the New Testament letters. Students will develop skills in close reading of biblical texts, engagement with the traditions and contributions of biblical scholarship, and reflection upon the hermeneutical process of reading the New Testament letters from a variety of perspectives – yours and others. This seminary introduction to the New Testament letters invites students into a space where the academy and church meet.
