Using Computational Drug Docking to Identify Possible Therapeutics and Lead Compounds
Molecular docking can be used to predict the ability of drug candidates to bind with disease proteins. This structure-based approach makes computational docking calculations of the binding confirmations and free energies of binding of small-molecule ligands to large disease molecules thus inactivating the disease process. While we will not be designing novel drugs this summer, we will utilize public databases of small-molecule ligands to identify potential candidates for re-purposing against significant diseases that have not yet been cured or are difficult to treat. Using docking computational software, scholars will predict ligand position and orientation in binding sites and calculate binding affinities to help identify promising small molecules for future investigation.

Course Description and Course Goals
• This course will help participants examine current cultures and systems in their place of ministry, and develop new intentional and holistic systems for forming disciples.
• This course will utilize synchronic and asynchronic learning approaches, lectures, guest lectures, breakout groups, and other pedagogical methods to aid students in understanding concepts and implementing changes in their current and future ministry settings, especially at relates to discipleship formation.
• Students will engage the course readings and participate in forums to learn from other students’ experiences and wisdom. While the final project will help demonstrate an understanding of discipleship and the role of the congregation in forming disciples, participation in the class meetings and the forums will help broaden and deepen perspectives on discipleship formation.
