A Google search on “youth” or “millennial” and “church” will eventually lead to doom–and–gloom articles on why youth and young adults are not attending church. Some articles will blame the Church; others will blame young people. What we know for sure is that youth and young adults are finding meaning outside of The Church. With this as our contextual background we will explore the complexity of what it means to minister to, with, and for youth and young adults. This course will explore different topics and argue for the importance of a theological starting point for youth ministry. We will gain insights from sociology, developmental psychology, education, and other disciplines that contribute to our understanding of youth and young adults and their relationship to the Church.
